New Bootlegs: 10-16 Dec 2007

I wanted to make you aware of two new bootlegs posted in the past week:

This is the only recording I’ve seen of the 2007 Behold the Lamb of God tour. Maybe someone else recorded one? I hope so. It’s the only show I made it to this year.

Plethora of Bootlegs

I’ve been working off a backlog of shows lately, and I didn’t want those to go missed here on SPA.net. [We have a mailing list to keep you apprised as these things go out, mind you.] Here’s what’s new:

Here’s a sample from the show of Randall’s I just put out tonight, with his wife Amy accompanying him on “Susan Coats’s Pants”:

As always, these shows are available on IndieRiver.net for the low-low price of … FREE. We simply ask that you stay online after you’ve downloaded to help us seed the bootlegs [which lets other folks get things faster] and to support the artists by buying their CDs. We know that some of you live in places where the Pegs don’t often play, so this is your opportunity to hear them in concert without spending hundreds of dollars on airfare. [If you wanted to toss some of that money you're not spending our way towards us to help defray the costs of running the site, we will not complain.] Sign up for an IndieRiver account today, and remember to check out the HOWTO to help you get started.

A New Addition

Bootleg Cover Art

Originally uploaded by Geof F. Morris.

Well, since Sandra is openly discussing this in concerts, it’s worth posting the good news for all to know …

“I’m playing my guitar side saddle,” she said at a show up in Nashville a couple weeks back. “We have an extra member here up on stage.”

I believe the street date for this release is early this summer. ;)

On behalf of [squarepegalliance.net] and the larger fan community, congratulations. Folks seem to really be excited.

Sandra and Derek in Paste Magazine #25

Sandra McCracken’s latest album, Gravity|Love, receives a positive four-star review in the latest issue (#25) of Paste Magazine. The review states “…she’s capable of creating Americana to rival recent outings from Tom Petty or The Jayhawks…” Her song “Long Way Home” is also featured in the included sampler CD alongside artists such as Mindy Smith and The Decemberists.

Her husband, Mr. McCracken, also known as Derek Webb, also has an insert in the latest issue detailing the free release of his latest album, Mockingbird

Can’t Make Nashville Mid-Week? Try Knoxville!

I know that everyone can’t always be driving to Nashville on Tuesday nights—Nashville may not be nearby, and heck, mid-week trips are hard. [Trust me, I know.] This may have you bummed about not making the Gravity|Love release show in Nashville on Tuesday, but if that’s your problem, how about hitting Knoxville on Friday? Convenient to three interstate corridors, a beautiful city [okay, so I'm biased as it's my birthplace], and a great venue in New City.

The lineup will be the same for these shows [and tonight's in Columbia]:

  • The lovely Mrs. McCracken
  • The affable Mr. McCracken on electric and 12-string acoustic
  • The road warrior bass man, Mark Polack
  • Mr. “Congas in My Monitors” Garett Buell

So, if you can’t make Nashville on Tuesday, hit up Knoxville tomorrow. You’ll have a blast either way!

CD Release Show for Sandra’s Gravity|Love

We are sorely, sorely remiss for not prominently mentioning this date before now, but we’ll make up for it: if you can make it, come to Nashville on Tuesday September 12th! Sandra has put together a wonderful show for the release of her new album, Gravity|Love, which I’ve had for a month and quite dearly love. If you don’t have it, part of the $10 cover charge that night includes a copy of the CD. [Me, I'll find someone upon whom I will bestow this bit of musical goodness.] And if Sandra alone isn’t reason enough to show—and if it isn’t, you need your head examined!—the wonderful Kate York and fellow Square Peg Matthew Perryman Jones will open. This promises to be a wonderful, wonderful show … heck, it’s almost two weeks away and I’m already giddy with excitement.

If you are coming out, let us know! I’d like to meet up with all of you that come on out … I’ll be there taking photos and recording it and doing all that fun stuff.

Sandra Interviewed by Radiant

Radiant Magazine has a two-part interview with our Sandra.

Sandra McCracken may be better known to some audiences as Derek Webb’s better half, but McCracken has been making her own way for quite a while.

I don’t think of her as Mrs. Derek Webb; I think of Derek as Mr. Sandra McCracken.

The interview delves into some of Sandra’s background, so it’s a good read if you’ve wondered about this sort of thing before.
