Performance notes:
You’ll note that this is a unique recording—it includes a performance of “The High Countries”, which Sandra wrote for Caedmon’s Call’s Back Home album. Caedmon’s never played “The High Countries” on the road, despite a number of requests. Sandra played the song because she knew I wanted to hear it; I about passed out as she winked at me during the introduction.
Derek often covers a Bob Dylan song; in this part of 2003, he was using “Every Grain of Sand”. I think Derek does the song justice.
This is during Derek’s “House Show” era, and this was played in a small UMC near Huntsville. This is obviously outside the mainstream Derek Webb crowd, so his introductions are a bit more forceful and direct than they sometimes otherwise were. Derek said afterwards that he felt no energy in the room, but I honestly enjoyed the show.
I hope you enjoy it!
