Pegs on Tour: Dates Added 11-17 May 2008

It’s another sparse week of adds, but we’ll keep ‘em comin’ …

I’m thinkin’ about that Philly show if Bryan [and, more importantly, Erica] would put me up at their house … ;)

Ben Shive record available for pre-order

Who is this Ben Shive, you ask? He’s not a Square Peg, right? Well… according to Andrew Peterson on The Rabbit Room, he is now. If you’ve listened to any of Andrew’s stuff over the years, or been to any of Andrew’s shows, you’ve probably heard Ben’s lyrics and his amazing piano skills. Which makes the title of Ben’s upcoming record all the more appropriate: The Ill-Tempered Klavier. (If you’re a music person, you’ll get the joke. If not, AP explains it on the RR post I linked.)

Ben’s songs’ awesomeness have long been praised but have, to this point, rarely been heard. That will end come June 17th when the digital download will be available via the Rabbit Room store. It’s not clear at the moment whether the pre-buy is for an actual disk or just for the downloads, though from the price ($10) and the fact that they’re not charging any shipping, I’m guessing it’s just for the download. The pre-order is for the digital download only, but is priced reasonably ($10). Ben might actually print some up in the future, but for now, digital is what you’ll get. And believe me, it’ll be worth it. (Thanks, AP, for clarifying in the comment below.) If you pre-order in the next month you’ll get two bonus tracks plus some sort of special “digital booklet” when the download is available.

I’ve ordered mine… you should do the same. Visit the Rabbit Room Store to get it.

EP Interviewed

Eric posted an interview done with him back at one of the two Huntsville Behold the Lamb of God shows last year [note: not the one I attended, so the interviewer isn't me]. The highlight for me:

You play churches, and you play regular venues, and you play coffeehouses. I want to know, do you change as a performer? How do you transition from place to place?

That’s a great question.

Because you can’t say curse words in church … unless you’re Derek [Webb].

Yeah, maybe he can get away with it.

Man, that’s a great question. I definitely don’t change necessarily what I say; I change how I say it. I don’t ever know what people think of my music. But I suspect that if they hear song and read the lyrical content, they know where I’m coming from. And my big thing as a writer is to never be obnoxious about what I’m talking about. My thing is just to tell my story and to lay it out there with no strings attached and just to let it be and for people to hear it and do what they will with it.

It’s funny because I don’t really feel comfortable in any setting. If I’m in a club, which is not often, but when I play a club, I don’t feel cool enough to be there.

But are any of us cool enough to be there? Probably not.

Gullahorns in Atlanta this weekend

Just a quick note/reminder/clarification for you Atlanta folks for this weekend. Jill and Andy will be in the Atlanta area this weekend playing 2 shows. There was some confusion in the MySpace world (that may or may not have been Andy’s fault…), so I wanted to make sure we get it cleared up so nobody ends up at the wrong venue on the wrong day. Jill confirmed these dates for me earlier today.

Saturday - 7:30 p.m. - Acoustic Jeremiah, Canton, GA
Just mapquest it and don’t doubt the directions when you think you’re going to fall off the edge of the earth. This is a really cool old church building that has great atmosphere. I’ve been there once, and it was really one of the coolest venues I’ve been to in a long time. And it’s a free show…

Sunday - 7:00 p.m. - Crosspointe Church, Oxford, GA
This is out in the Covington/Conyers area. I’ve seen one show here, and it was well done with a very attentive audience. And this is a free show, too.

Notice that they’re both free shows. Come on out to one (or both) of these. It’s going to be a good weekend. :-)
