Bryan told us a few weeks back about Jeremy’s new studio blog, but we haven’t revisited it since then, which is a shame. So, if you haven’t been keeping up with our man Casella—shame on you!—let’s bring you up to speed a little:
I’ve been working on a new song these past couple days called “Daylight”….it moves pretty fast at 120 bpm with some beats I programmed in Reason that have a touch of electronica in them. I’ve been camping out on the arrangement marrying orchestral sounds, 12 string acoustic guitar and the electronica stuff….
I love fast rhythms that still retain a sense of space…so it feels just busy enough but not overdoing anything. Leave room for the beauty.
If I can get 3-4 songs on this record that move between 120-135 bpms then I’ll be a happy man.
Fast beat … strings … 12-string acoustic … electronica. This isn’t going to sound like any Casella record we’ve heard before.
I’ve been writing on piano all week and it continues to open all sorts of doors I never knew existed. A lot of melodic and musical interludes that I would never hear or write on guitar have been introducing themselves to me on our old 1935 Kimball upright.
I’ve never had this much fun on any of my records!!!!!!!
It is always great to see an artist take a bunch of bold steps in putting together an album. Who wants to hear the same stuff all the time?
Jeremy, I really look forward to hearing this one, brother.
since jeremy lives just down the street from me, i see him somewhat regularly whether we go jogging, out to the nursery (for plants & vegetation, not children), to sip on coffee to together or to show off our yard work. i’ve visited his house a few times over the past couple of weeks and each time he’s played me some of the material he’s been recording for the new album. it is striking how good this new batch of songs will be. his new melodies are startlingly good and the production – oh my – is really quite strong. jeremy’s concept of marrying orchestral tones with acoustic-based is inspiring. this album is going to be very good, in my opinion.
carry on.
