SPA Discography

My site logger tells me that a lof of you have been checking out our still-being-built Square Peg Discography, but I do want to point all of you to it. It’s designed to be a jumping off point for you to get to know more about the Square Pegs. Chances are that you know some but not all of the Pegs, and all this hullabaloo about the Pegs has you wanting to know more about some of the rest of the guys. [I know that this has even been the case with me, and I had seen most all of the pegs play live prior to us starting SPA.net.]

Understand that, whenever we can, we try to point you to places endorsed by the artists themselves for purchasing the album. We don’t get cuts off of the sales—Ron, Bryan, and I were very clear in the formation of SquarePegAlliance.net that we want no part of the business side of the Pegs. That’s totally their thing—we’re just here to support them in any way we know.

So keep an eye out on that Square Peg Discography: It’s always growing and changing. And big ups to Chris Hubbs for all the hard work he’s been doing on it. He’s a warrior: after all, he’s not above driving from Iowa to Nashville to see some Pegs play.

Front Cover of Katy Bowser’s All of My Friends

Front Cover

Originally uploaded by gfmorris.

I’ve uploaded a small set of photos where I unwrapped my copy of Katy’s All of My Friends.

The cover art is pretty cool: I wasn’t what I was originally expecting it to be, but when I figured out how Katy had done the packaging, I found it to be really, really awesome. This is do-it-yourself CD packaging with flair, folks.

Andy O Interview on Relevant

Richard pointed us to RELEVANT‘s interview with the one and only nine-toed member of the Square Peg Alliance, Andy Osenga. Andy describes the musical departure that The Morning represents for his solo work:

Musically, I’ve been such a big part of the folk circuit—a singer/songwriter with an acoustic guitar—and sometimes I just hate that. It can be really boring. Don’t get me wrong … there are guys like Andy Peterson and Randall Goodgame who can get up with an acoustic guitar and blow your mind. But Nashville’s got a lot of this three-chord acoustic stuff, and I really wanted not to do that. On Christian radio, especially, an acoustic guitar is usually the biggest thing in the mix and it takes up all the space. But I’d listen to old Peter Gabriel records, and old U2 and Pink Floyd records, and they’re so huge-sounding, because there’s not something in there that takes up the whole range of your hearing. So I intentionally started every song with a drum loop—which I suck at—and keyboards—which I suck at—and built around those. The guitars were the last thing to go on, even after the vocals.

The whole interview is worth checking out.

Randall & AP: Kids Record to be finished today

Andrew Peterson and Randall Goodgame updated us last night on the status of their upcoming combined effort kids CD. It was to have been finished in time to get in the mail today to get mixed.

According to an update on Andy’s web site, it’s being mixed by Josh Davis (The Far Country, Photographs) and Portland Studios will be doing the art for the project.

There’s no set release date yet, but the release date and ordering information will be posted here as soon as we get that info from Andrew or Randall.

SquarePegAlliance.net on Last.FM

If you spent time with Infuze Magazine’s interview with a bunch of the Pegs, you know that the Square Peg Alliance is all about community. So are we. Not only do we have our Peg Board and our Upcoming.org group, but we also have a SquarePegAlliance.net group on Last.FM. If you haven’t ever given Last.FM a shot, we encourage you to do so: Last.FM will help you to find new music by looking at what it is that you listen to. With plugins for every PC- and Mac-based music player that you can think of, as well as Last.FM streaming audio, not only will you be able to share your playlist with everyone but then use that information to find new artists.

Why a SPA.net group? Two-fold: 1) again, we’re about community; 2) more of us listening to more of the Pegs = more exposure for the Pegs. That’s got to be a good thing.

Sign up for Last.FM today if you haven’t already, and join the SquarePegAlliance.net group.
