Katy Bowser will have a new EP, titled All of My Friends, coming out this summer.
After a near miss with a record deal, Katy and Kenny knew exactly what they wanted. They put their shoulder to the wheel and produced their EP at home—doing it exactly the way they wanted, and taking as long as necessary to do it. “Recording at our home studio meant that when it wasn’t quite right, we’d stop and have tea, and wait until it did. Or sleep on it and give it a go over our first cup of coffee.” The proof is in the listening: the result is a sonically sweet gem where every note counts, rife with Kenny’s mandolin, parlor guitar and pedal steel, Katy’s vocals and Jake Bradley’s upright bass, and little else.
I’m doing some listening to it right now, and I like what I hear. We hope you’ll like it, too. Visit Katy’s MySpace and you’ll be able to hear versions of two of the three tracks sitting in my hot little hands.
Addendum: the versions up on MySpace are some demos Katy and Kenny did while Katy had a stomach virus … so not only are we talking demo tracks [with all the diamond-in-the-rough quality that implies], but Katy wasn’t feeling great. So don’t let that detract from your enjoyment and excitement.
Also, big ups to the WebbCrackens for loaning gear to the AoMF recording project. That’s true Square Peg style right there!
